I hate to discuss these topics because this discussion is never-ending. This is because a large number of people refuse to believe that there are instances where police shootings are unjustifiable. While many officers have some level of integrity and respect for the oath that he/she has sworn to uphold, which is to serve and protect, some do not. While race plays a predominant role when examining injustices in the criminal justice system, education, training, and salary also play significant roles in corruption and other unethical behaviors. The minimum educational requirement needed to become a law enforcement officer is a High School Diploma. This says a lot in itself. I have never known a 17, 18, 19, or even 20-year-old man or woman who was mentally and emotionally MATURE enough to handle such an intense level of responsibility and pressure in any given environment, let alone, the workplace. Have you? While many officers pass the physical and( or) psychological assessment test(s), a large number of officers fail the psychosocial assessment test. This is a test that concentrates on social interaction. It is imperative for law enforcement officers to have a concrete understanding of both, criminal behavior and sociology. Furthermore, officers should know how to interact with people(regardless of race, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, and etc). This is essential because this profession involves the use of a firearm. UNTIL PROFESSIONAL PROCEDURAL EXPECTATIONS CHANGE, VIOLENCE WILL CONTINUE TO PROGRESS & THE COURTS WILL CONTINUE TO EXCUSE THE USE OF EXCESS FORCE BY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS.
